Shedding has Begun

Spring is in the air and the husky coats seem to know it. When they shed the shed alot, but it usually comes out in clumps. So it is easy to just pull out.

Right now only my little Pugley is shedding, but soon they will all be getting rid of their winter coats. I'll be spending my days plucking doggie hair to help them along.

It's amazing how much hair you get out of them. I have pulled multiple handfuls out of the dogs at a time. They love the attention though. It makes them feel special to have mamma groom them. Somedays I swear I need more hands. Thank God they only shed twice a year.

It is relaxing though. Sitting around with my doggies, taking care of them, getting love and affection while grooming them at the same time. Who could ask for more.

Snow and the Siberian Husky

Snow has finally arrived and my siberian huskies are in seventh heaven. I swear the only thing they like better than snow is food.

Since it started snowing two days ago they have been outdoors constantly. The lay out in the snow and let it pile up on them. Once they do come in they want right back out.

Mason has fallen off the wood pile due to the snow but he jumps right back up there. He loves to sit high up and watch the neighbors dogs. I'm so glad he hasn't seriously injured himself.

It has been a happy couple days for my siberian huskies. They'll be even happier when they can make their little dens in the snow. Once we get that much snow Max will want to stay out all night. I won't let him of course but he'll want too.

The Mud Bath

I love all of my siberian huskies, but when the fall and spring come I wish I didn't have so many. Those times of the year turn my home into a mud pit.

We have a doggie door, which I love because my dogs are able to come and go as they please. I just wish they didn't track so much mud into the house with them. I could lock them in or out, but I hate doing that to them. I like my freedom why wouldn't they.

Of course as soon as they come inside they have to shake themselves off. That leads to mud all over the walls and appliances as well. I spend alot of time durng the spring and fall wiping down the walls.

Even though I wish they didn't take mud baths, I love my siberian huskies. They keep me company and bring me joy. I would never get rid of my babies.

They each have their own personalities and unique behaviors. Take Shy for example, she has a stuffed porcupine that she carries around while making a low growling sound. Then she'll lay it down next to her as if daring the other dogs to take it. How could you not love her.

Time to Go

It's 5am and I need to go Out! Now! But she's still sleeping, guess I'll have to wake her up.

I go to the back door, stand up and pull the lever to open it. I run to the living room and back to the door. If only that doggie door wasn't locked down, I'd be out already.

I run back to the living room and Pugs wakes up. He joins me in the race to the door. I let out a little whine, I really need to go.

"Mason, lay down It's not time yet!"

Oops. She's mad now. Guess I'll lay here for a minute. Pugs goes back to the couch and lays back down.

Shoot I just can't wait. "Mmmmmmp" Again I run around the house. Here to there. There to here. Pugs just watches, his blue eyes follow my every move till I'm out of sight.

Here comes Maxi. He'll get her up. Oh good Harley's awake too.

I run here to there and Harley starts to bark. Maxi goes in our room and jumps on the bed.

"Hey, get down."

Maxi bounces around her. "Hey it's time to get up."

"Jeez you guys, allright already." She throws the covers back and gets out of bed.

We beat her to the doggie door. Shy staying in the rear out of the way. Waiting patiently as we try to get out.

She pushes through us. "You gotta get outta the way. Come on move." She finally pulls the door up and we're out.

Yippie, I get to go!

Living With 5 Siberian Huskies

In my little piece of the country, there's a little house. In this little house live five beautiful siberians and myself. It get's a little crowded at times, but I wouldn't change it for anything.
Now the head honcho for the males(the alpha male) is Harley. Sometimes he can be a real meanie head.
Then theirs Pugs, now here's a dog that just wants all the love.
Maxie was a rescue, very lovable but skittish, still ducks when you go to pet him.
Of course there's my little man Mason youngest of the group and totally spoiled. He's my only red husky.
Then there is my princess, Shy puppy. The only female, mother of Harley and Pugs. She got ran over and has a very bad hip, which is why she can do no wrong, none, nada, zilch.
These dogs are very special me. They are indiviuals, with their own personalities. Everyone says they look the same, I don't think they're really looking at them.
Living with 5 dogs can be trying for anyone. The mud on rainy days, cost of pet food, vet bills, licenses, and so on. Siberians can be even harder. They have certain characteristics you just can't change.
Digging is a favorite past time for Siberians. They like to make burrows to lie in. In the winter it's for warmth, in the summer to stay cool. They also like to bury food and guard it. That's caused some fights.
Siberians have running in their blood. They need alot of exercise or they will not be happy. That's when they start being bad.
They chew alot. Make sure they have rawhides or other toys to chew on. It is essential. You do not want to be buying new furniture all the time.
With 5 dogs there is going to be trouble. Whether it's over food or who's the boss, trouble does come a calling. Have you ever tried to break up a fight with two fifty pound dogs that have an attitude. Let me tell you it's not fun. Especially when you weigh all of a hundred and twenty pounds, you get yanked and pulled all over the place. And no I have never been bitten by my dogs, but it's still a little nerve racking.
Having dogs takes time and effort. I try to give my dogs their own special time every day. During that time I work on obediance training and give them lots of love.
It is very important that Siberian Huskies have training and know that you are the boss. If they don't know you're in charge they will run all over you.

Choosing a Theme for your Holiday Cooking

In my family we compete from year to year for the best holiday meal. If you want to beat out your sisters, liven up your meal with a theme. You may think it's rebelling and some in your family will hate it, but others will adore it. Holiday cooking can fit any topic or idea you like. You could have the perfect picnic just by using a checkered tablecloth, and filling baskets with snacks for everyone. You want to do things completely different and maybe inspire your sisters to get creative when it's their turn to host the affair. Now if you do the picnic theme stick to it. Make sure you have finger foods, cheese and crackers, and don't forget a bottle of good wine. If you live in a warm climate you could even actually have the meal outside for the holiday.
You could do a buffet. Set the food up on sideboards with plates and utensils, just like you were dining at your favorite all you can eat spot. Don't be afraid to experiment. You want to be different but still enjoy your holiday.
You could use themes based on past times like the victorian or medieval eras. Ethnic themes could be fun as well. You could make a pinata and serve mexican dishes. Or perhaps you could set up the dining room to look like an outside cafe in Paris. The possibilities are endless and can provide years of fun for your family.
One thing you don't want to do is forget dessert. My family must have their cakes and pies or they are not happy. You can be unique there as well, keeping with the theme as you decorate your cakes and cookies. Have fun and enjoy dfferent themes for holiday meals.

My Intro

Hi. I live in the country and I love it. We have 5 siberian huskies that are our children and yes they are spoiled.
Life up here is laid back. You can swim in the summer or ski and snowmobile in the winter. It is the best place to live.
